One week left to train…
Spring Fling went down at Spire last weekend. Let’s see, Kevin Macartney and Inge Perkins won the adult comp on Friday night. I managed to take a few photos.
Also, I went out to Yankee Jim today and was really surprised by the snow, or lack of. Yankee Jim is completely bone dry – no snow… so go get some. Back to the photos:
FGD has come and gone. As usual, it was a hell of a lot of fun. 102 brand new problems from super-easy to sick hard. There were tons of competitors too, with lots of out of staters. It was easily the strongest field of climbing competitors that has ever gathered in MT on both the men’s and woman’s side.
In the end Mike Bockino from Idaho (Moscow?) and Molly Rennie from Missoula ended up on top by crushing the finals. Congrats guys! I remember all the other finalists but I’m not 100% sure of the final order. In no particular order the other finalists were Kyle Vassilopoulos (Bozeman), Joe Meiners (Texas/Bozeman/SLC), Kerrek Stinson (Cody, WY), Kevin Macartney (Bozeman) and Dominic Speranza (Billings). The other woman’s finalists were Sidney Trinidad (Seattle), Bridget Creel (Bozeman), Joanna Onorato (Bozeman), Inge Perkins (Bozeman) and Tammy McClure (Boise?, Idaho). I should also note that Sidney Trinidad is 11 years old and about 4 and a half feet tall and she still crushed! She was in first place going into finals, but Molly edged her on both of the finals problems and Sidney took second overall for the woman.
Here’s a few of the better photos that I took over the course of the last few days setting for and watching FGD X:

Mike on Men’s Final #2 (on his way to flashing both Men’s finals)
Big thanks to the Ho-Master and Meg Hall for hosting such an amazing event!
Whiskey season is in full effect. As I said in my last post, Ho did the top-out to “Caught in the Act” last week, calling it “the Thing” V8. Finishing what he started, Ho went back on Sunday and completed the sit start to “the Thing” naming it “the Thing with Two Heads” V9. He also did the long awaited full line of “Caught in the Act” into “the Thing” calling it “Caught in the Thing” V10.
Missing out on all the action at Whiskey, I spent the weekend down in Cody. Here’s a video that I put together of a few of the problems I did.
Lastly, I didn’t include Jon Scott, “JS”, in the setters for FGD in my last post cause I didn’t have a photo of him that would do him justice. But, I did a quick search of the old interweb and scrounged one up.
See y’all at FGD X!
Just over a week until the best climbing competition in the Northern Rockies. The 10th installment of Full Gravity Day is going down Saturday, Nov. 6 at Spire Climbing Center. For more info and to register online go here. As usual it’s going to be some of the coolest problems you’ll ever climb on, set by the likes of:
“JM” (I dare you to guess the problem he’s eyeing)
and of course, the man with the plan, “HO”
Speaking of Ho, he FA’d the top-out to the infamous Whiskey problem Caught in the Act yesterday calling it “the Thing” V8-ish (starting on the finish jug of CitA). The complete line including the Caught in the Act traverse hasn’t been done yet, but I’m guessing someone will take it down quite soon now that it’s possible.
Anyways, you’ve got just over a week, more than enough time to train… FGD X is near!!!
Just a few quick updates since I haven’t done any new posts in a while.

-To all you climbers that like using ropes: Spire Climbing Center in Bozeman is having their annual roped competition on Friday, April 9th. It’ll be a blast. Tons of great routes, prizes, and fun people. Check out http://www.spireclimbingcenter.com for more info. Hope to see you there
-I added Jeff Ho and Jeff Webber’s Yankee Jim bouldering guide. If you don’t know, Yankee Jim is an excellent little bouldering area about 45 minutes south of Livingston, MT in the Paradise Valley.
-Lastly, I’ve made a decent amount of progress on the first guide for new stuff at Whiskey, the End of the Road Boulders. I’m hoping to have it done within the next couple week (I know… I’ve been saying that for a month now). There will be about a hundred new problems from V0 to V8 with a few great projects too.
